Biography
Currently based in Gibraltar, Ligia’s practice is diverse, ranging from large scale high value commercial litigation and trust litigation to employment matters both contentious and non-contentious, jurisdictional disputes, art disputes and appeals to the judicial committee of the privy council.
Ligia has particular expertise in matters relating to the protection of confidential information and other business interest both on behalf of employers and individuals and with disputes involving financial services and banking, professional negligence, shareholders and directors’ disputes, breach of contract and partnership disputes. As a result, she has developed a wealth of experience extending across various practice areas.
Ligia is a dual qualified Solicitor, having first qualified as an Advocate in Romania in 2004. She then qualified as a Solicitor in England in 2010 whilst working with the commercial litigation team of a highly respected Legal 500 law firm. Prior to moving to Signature Litigation, Ligia was working with the litigation team of a leading national law firm in the city of London. Ligia is now able to practice in the UK and Gibraltar.
Ligia has been nominated as finalist Assistant/Associate Solicitor of the year on a number of occasions at the British Legal Awards and the Law Society Excellence Awards.
Experience
- Acting for two trust and corporate management services companies in claim by the beneficiary of the trust regarding the termination of the trust.
- Acting for the shareholders of a Maltese company in a claim against a bank involving allegations of knowing receipt and dishonest assistance.
- Acting in a number of appeals to the judicial committee of the privy council.
- Acting for a national retail bank in the context of a Financial Conduct Authority investigation into the sale of interest rate hedging products.
- Obtaining various springboard injunctive relief against former employees for breach of undertakings and confidential information.
